The all new Smittybilt Synthetic Winch Rope is manufactured using Dyneema SK-75 which is lighter and stronger than traditional Aircraft cables. The primary advantage of using synthetic winch rope is it won’t kink, curl or splinter. Synthetic winch rope is much easier to handle and can be handled with bare hands without the fear of serious injury that a frayed steel cable might cause. Each Smittybilt synthetic winch rope is specially treated to be UV stable as well as heat treated. All Smittybilt winch ropes come complete with a 10’ protective sleeve, a stainless steel thimble, and a safety hook with connector link. This rope floats, weighs about 1/7 the weight of similar strength steel cable, and does not have the "spring" effect that steel aircraft cable has when it breaks. What does this mean to you? This product is easier to use than steel cable, weighs considerably less than steel cable, and won't try to kill you should it break like steel cable can. Don't let the low price fool you, this Smittybilt 97880 winch rope is constructed using high grade Dyneema SK-75, the same material used in most big name synthetic winch ropes. The buying power of Smittybilt allows them to sell winch ropes for less than their smaller competitors because they build and sell hundreds of winch ropes at a time. At this price the Smittybilt is an affordable upgrade to the old old style steel aircraft cable. The one exception is if you are using the winch rope in fire rescue scenarios. The one downfall of synthetic winch rope is heat. This product should NOT be used where excessive heat (think burning building) may cause the synthetic rope to fail.
